Phillips Europe at Commercial Vehicle Show 2026 in Birmingham – solutions for commercial vehicles and the transport industry

From 21 to 23 April 2026, Phillips Europe took part in the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, one of the most important events for the transport, logistics and automotive industries in the United Kingdom. Every year, the Commercial Vehicle Show brings together leading manufacturers, suppliers and experts connected with the market for commercial vehicles, trucks, trailers and transport solutions.

For Phillips Europe, attending the show in Birmingham was an excellent opportunity to present our range of electrical and pneumatic connectors for trucks, advanced truck and trailer solutions, and modern components designed to improve safety, reliability and operational efficiency in the transport sector. At our stand, we showcased, among others, TPMS systems for tyre pressure monitoring, high-quality accessories, and solutions developed for manufacturers, distributors, workshops and transport fleets.

During the event, our team – Radosław Sypniewski (Sales Director), Jakub Zaleski (Key Account Manager) and Radosław Staśkiewicz (Marketing Manager) – actively represented Phillips Europe, holding numerous business meetings and discussions with industry partners. Our participation in the trade fair allowed us not only to strengthen relationships with existing customers, but also to establish new and valuable business contacts in the UK and international markets.

Commercial Vehicle Show 2026 was also a great opportunity to observe the key trends shaping the future of the commercial vehicle and road transport industry. Particular attention was given to the growing role of electromobility, telematics, safety-enhancing technologies and solutions that improve vehicle control, efficiency and reliability.

Taking part in the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham was an intensive and highly valuable experience for Phillips Europe. We were pleased to present our truck and trailer solutions, exchange knowledge with industry professionals and demonstrate how we support customers with reliable products for both the OE and aftermarket sectors.

What is EvolutionIQ?

EvolutionIQ is a next-generation trailer-to-truck connectivity interface developed by Phillips Europe. It replaces the existing ISO 12098 15-pin connector while remaining fully backward compatible with the current installed base. It is designed to handle the full data and power requirements of modern smart trailer systems without requiring additional connectors, cables, or adaptors.

Why does trailer-to-truck connectivity need to change?

Modern trailers carry camera systems, ADAS components, GPS tracking, tyre pressure sensors, and other technologies that generate far more data than the existing 15-pin connector was designed to support. The current standard creates a bandwidth bottleneck that limits what OEMs can build and what fleets can operate. A new generation of connectivity infrastructure is needed to remove that constraint.

What is backward compatibility and why does it matter?

Backward compatibility means EvolutionIQ works with trucks and trailers already using ISO 12098 connectors, with no adaptor required. This matters because the European commercial vehicle fleet is enormous, and any transition that requires simultaneous hardware changes across the entire installed base is not commercially or operationally realistic. Backward compatibility allows fleets to modernise progressively, at their own pace, without managing two incompatible populations of vehicles.

How much bandwidth does EvolutionIQ support?

EvolutionIQ delivers 4 Gb/sec now, with the architecture designed to scale to significantly higher bandwidth as cooperating smart trailer systems grow in adoption over the next decade.

Does EvolutionIQ require a new connector on both the truck and trailer?

No. EvolutionIQ replaces the existing 15-pin connector. There is no requirement for a separate or additional connector at either end of the combination.

What is ISO 12098 and why is it relevant?

ISO 12098 is the international standard governing the 15-pin electrical connector currently used between trucks and trailers across Europe. It handles power distribution and core signalling functions. EvolutionIQ is designed as the backward-compatible evolution of that standard, extending its capabilities to meet the data demands of modern trailer systems without replacing the physical and electrical infrastructure already in place.
